THE THIRTEENTH JORVIK RUN
With 130+ cars in attendance, the 13th Jorvik run proved once again a successful opener to the York MG rally season.
The weather forecast was not great with showers expected to turn up at any time, however as the cars started to assemble the sun shone and provided an optimistic start to the proceedings.
Castle Howard is a great venue to meet up and soon the parking area and tea room was buzzing with people meeting up with friends old and new, comparing cars or discussing the history of their vehicles whilst others worked on the technology of tying a rally plaque to the front of their car!

Preparing for the off!
The first vehicles began to leave the muster area at about 09.30 and, with the sound of engines firing up; most people joined the procession out of the car park onto the open road. Once again the straight roads of the Castle Howard estate were packed with a crocodile of classic cars - a great sight.
This year the route planned, by Guy Lockwood, Tim Sherbourne and Tony Fewster was a scenic as ever, running through Coxwold and the Howardian Hills and then toward Bilsdale to Chop Gate. Ingleby Greenhow and the first climb to the North York Moors provided lunchtime picnic stops for some and all under healthy blue skies. Carrying on Northward the route passed Scaling Dam before looping south through Glaisdale and over beautiful quiet moorland roads to the village of Rosedale Abbey where many cars were parked to allow cups of tea to be consumed in the village tea rooms.

Lunchtime!
The final part of the route passed through Cropton and Amotherby before returning to park up in the traditional spot on the Cricket field belonging to the Castle Howard estate. A great route and carried out in dry conditions which made the run even better.
Once all cars had returned the interest from visitors to the Stately House increased until a large throng of people were enjoying seeing the cars parked up. This year the admin. Gazebo doubled up as a regalia stall for the club and sales of polo shirts, caps and fleeces were very good.
The Run this year once again supported the Marie Curie Cancer Care fund and as last year we were able to present Michael Streets of the trust with a cheque for £1750 - A great effort.
As a finale the traditional awards were presented by RYMGOC President Tony Fewster, this year the award for the oldest car went to Nigel Bew with his 1935 MG PA. The furthest travelled award was presented to Roger Greaves of Guildford, Surrey and the judge’s favourite car on display was awarded to Phil Arundel with his Austin Healey 3000 Mk 3.
All in all another fantastic day and thanks are due to all those who helped and supported the running of the rally especially sponsors Simon and Judy Hall Cottages 4 You and Philip Welch Specialist Cars. See you all next year!
