Hayburn Wyke “Lucy cup” run 20/09/09
“Sunshine by the sea” could have been the subtitle of the day as a dozen of our cars left the Duke of York on a glorious late summer morning. Whilst others queued on the roads to the coast, Mike Boddy’s well planned route took us through and over the Wolds on quiet, traffic free, hassle free roads. Time to take a coffee break by Wold Newton pond, admire the views through Hackness and Forge Valley and onward to the Hayburn Wyke Hotel.
In warm sunshine, pre lunch drinks were taken outside in the garden whilst interested pub goers watched the arrival of MG’s, NG’s and E Types into the car park. The carvery lunch was up to its usual high standard and after eating, the announcement was made as to which car in the car park was deemed to be the favourite of Lucy of the Hayburn Hotel.
And the winner? A worthy first award for Mike Luscombe’s lovely MGA. Nice one Mike, good to see a new member drive away with the Lucy Cup and the wine.
After lunch, and for those wanting to walk of the excesses, Pete and Jean led a 4 mile walk around the cliffs and cuttings of the Hayburn coastline joined by Dave and June, Paul and Lynn and Frank Ashworth. On a beautiful clear day the coastal views were stunning and it’s fair to say that everyone enjoyed the walk and the drink back at the pub afterwards. MG ramblers club? Maybe!
Once again thanks to Mike and to those who made the day a success.
