The Waterboys Run  Fishermans Blues

The other day it occurred to me that on most, if not all of the runs this year, fish and chips have been the popular choice at our various lunch venues. So why not do a fish and chip run. The destination for this outing was to be Fish and Chips at 149 in Bridlington, winner of the National Fish and Chip Awards 2011. The 27th of October was the chosen date and at 29 minutes past seven that morning the skies were cloudy but rainless. At half past it was raining. Luckily it had stopped before I left home and we never saw more than a spit or a spot all day long.

We met at the "dogwalkers" car park near Strensall, me and John in my roadster, E type Paul in his E type, Peter in his MX5 and Mazda Mike and Jim in Mikes Golf. After the usual chit chat and coffee off we went through Flaxton and Thornton le Clay with it's Youngers pub sign. We carefully crossed the A64 to Kirkham and then to Langton. Birdsall was next followed by Thixendale, Fimber and Sledmere. After that it was an easy run along the mostly straight ,more or less traffic free roads to Bridlington passing the East Riding Crematorium on the way. Our target on the Marton road was soon reached and although two of us managed to park outside the other two cars had to park on a residential street just over the road.

Once inside the shop, take away only by the way, we placed our orders. All meals are cooked to order, served in boxes and come complete with plastic fork, serviette and wet wipe to clean up afterwards. Chips are from locally sourced potatoes and all the fish is prepared on the premises. The fish and chips were excellent and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

After we had all finished it was back into the cars and down the road to Flamborough Head to use the toilets and have a look at the sea and yes it was still there! We then called in at the Seabirds in Flamborough village to test the quality of their Black Sheep bitter and we all agreed that it had travelled well from Masham.

And so ended the final mid week run of the year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who came with us and supported us this year and I hope to see you all again next year when we will try to find some new attractions to visit and maybe revisit one or two of the eighteen places we have been to over the last three years.
