DayZedandconFUSED - 14th July 2010
The Bob Dylan Run - The Gates of Eden

A crowded car park at Eden Camp
The 14th of July dawned bright and clear over York for another legendary dayZedandconFUSED run out. Ah yes the sun shines on the righteous. We met up at the Duke of York to go to Eden Camp near Malton. There were five cars, Mike, B roadster, Frank, Midget, Dave, GT, Kev, NG (for sale no reasonable offer refused), and me + John in my B roadster.
We went the long way round as usual and why not, that's what it's all about! We departed up through Buttercrambe and on to Langton, across to Scagglethorpe, Thornton le Dale, and then up to the Fox and Rabbit and back down to Pickering and to our destination just outside Malton.
Eden Camp is said to be the only modern history theme museum in the world and I have no reason to doubt it. The museum is built on the site of a WW2 prisoner of war camp that was built in 1942. It uses more than 30 of the original buildings to house the exhibits and tells the story of the WW1, WW2, and a number of other conflicts involving British forces right up to the present day. To look at everything properly and read all there was to read would need a couple of days at least. There is just so much to see. There was even a picture of my brother in laws father with his Home Guard unit and I certainly didn’t expect to see that.
The museum has excellent on site catering and we can all recommend the stew and dumplings. Everyone drifted off at different times for different appointments leaving me and John to be last away not long before it closed. A homeward thrash down the A64 and we just managed to collect a couple of dozen raindrops before we got home.
Another grand day out.
