The 11th of August dawned with clear blue skies but these had clouded over by the time we set off from the Duke of York at 10 o'clock. There were only two cars this time, myself with mate John and Dave in his GT.
The run to Flamborough was very good going as we went via Weaverthorpe. Very little traffic was encountered along the way and we seemed to be there in no time at all.
After a comfort stop in Flamborough village we continued on to the lighthouse and parked in the very busy car park. We went on the lighthouse tour and that meant climbing all the way to the top from where we could just about make out the Humber Bridge some 35 miles away. Well that’s how far the man said it was.
The lighthouse has been there since 1806 and was built by John Matson of Bridlington. A previous lighthouse known as the Chalk Tower was built in 1669 but was never lit. Back down the 119 steps we came and off to the Rose and Crown in Flamborough for lunch where it was homemade steak pie all round (and proper sized portions they were too), but we didn't leave any, not a crumb. Then it was time to head for home by different routes with just a brief shower to dampen things down as we went along.
