The Deep Purple Run - Smoke on the Water

picture

Spring has sprung, the grass is riz I wonder where the MGs is.

Well on Wednesday 14th of April four of them met on the Yorkshire Air Museum access road for a run to the Waterways Museum at Goole (where the Goolies come from). Those in attendance apart from me were Mike in his newly resprayed MGB Roadster, Derek the tiler with Mrs Derek directing also in a Roadster and Uncle Frank Ashworth in his Midget. Prior to setting off we all took photo's of the four cars but also included the magnificent Nimrod aircraft (one of Rich’s old mounts), and the Victor tanker aircraft. They made a superb background.
So off we went via Weldrake, Escrick, Skipwith, pausing briefly to look at the old DVLR station now a guest house,  North Duffield, Bubwith and Wressle. Thanks to the directions from the museum website we eventually found ourselves at Rawcliffe Bridge but there was no sign of the museum but eagle eyed Mike had spotted a sign as we came through Goole and we soon retraced our steps and arrived at our destination. The Yorkshire Waterways Museum is quite small but has a cafe and a number of interesting displays mainly to do with the development of Goole as an inland port and the canals and craft associated with it. After a hot drink we had a good look around although it was a very cold  day so we didn't venture outside much. There is an art gallery on one of the barges with pictures of  a nautical nature but also others featuring aircraft and motorsport. After lunch in the cafe we set off back the same way we came more or less but with a detour to look at a car. As we were about to leave Elvington earlier in the day we were told of an MGB for sale so we went to have a look at it. So when we found it at a garage in the vicinity of Crockey Hill we were all set to give it several serious coats of looking at. At first site it looked a decent car but the five of us soon found enough to put us off but if anyone is interested in a T reg roadster complete with it's rubber bumpers I can let them know where it is.
So that's our first one of the year out of the way and looking forward to many more.
