15 April 2009 - The inaugural meeting for the mid week run
Organised by Dave Norfolk
They were known affectionately as the ‘Old Codgers’, a term applied jealously to their being retired and able to get away for a mid week run. Recently they have started to refer to themselves as ‘Dazed & Confused’ although we have yet to unearth their connection with Led Zeppelin!

Today's daZed and conFUSED outing was to the Cropton Brewery. We managed to assemble three cars, all B's (with no bits left over) at the pub at Gate Helmsley, five people in total. There was Mike and Richard in Mike's car, Eric flying solo and myself and mate John in my car. We went to Cropton via Buttercrambe, Malton, Amotherby, Kirby Misperton and Pickering.
The route was arrived at by a consensus of opinion before we set off. We arrived at Cropton in plenty of time for our tour at 11am. We all found the tour very interesting, we were told a little of the history of brewing, how long the brewery had been on the go, the brewing process, bottling etc and then it was back to the bar to sample some. The price of the tour included either 1pint or 2 halves to drink or a pint bottle to take away. So we all sat down for a drink. Three of us had a sandwich, very nice too served with chips and salad.
We all returned separately. Mike and Richard set off first to return via the A64. Likewise Eric when he left about 20 minutes later. John and I were the last to leave just after Eric but we came back the pretty way via Kirby Moorside, Hovingham, Sheriff Hutton and Strensall. A good time was had by all and looking forward to more runs throughout the year.
