Picnic Run – Hazel Heads June 27th 2010
Nine cars met at the ‘Dogwalkers’ Car Park’ on a sunny Sunday morning for a 30 mile run up onto the Moors.
Setting out the route took us from Strensall through Sutton-on-the-Forest and Huby to Crayke where Kev did his best to wake any residents daring to be still in bed!
Starting the climb up Church Hill was just a practice for the ensuing steep ascent to the White Horse where only a couple of cars demonstrated susceptibility to altitude sickness!
A lovely run on top of the moors, where some of the early heather was already in flower, brought us to Hawnby and then on to Hazel Heads picnic site.
The site was perfect and gave Dave Bulmer acres of room to play football with his grandson, Max. On reflection his time would have been better spent in South Africa helping the England team. (I’m talking about Max not Dave!)
A really enjoyable trip out with universal thanks to Kev for organising the route.
