Sunday Morning Run - January 17th

On the 17th January we were invited on a run with the City of Leeds MG & Classic car club.
We met at the lay-by, just past the Aagrah restaurant, on the A64 at 9.45pm and the sun was shining, a welcome change after the recent snow and ice.

There was Dave & June in the MG ZR, Dave in his MGB GT, Andy & Lynda in their BMW & Mike in his MGA.

We set of to the starting point which was the Mexborough Arms at Thorner. On arrival there was free coffee and biscuits in the pub and a good turnout from the Leeds club, who are a very friendly bunch and made us very welcome. They were all admiring Mike’s MGA and could not believe he had fetched it out with all the salt still on the roads. They were even more surprised when he took the roof down.

We left at 11am under cloudy skies; there were lots of puddles at the side of the road as we headed towards Bramham, crossing over the A1 towards Clifford and Boston Spa.
From Boston Spa, we headed across the bridge towards Thorp Arch Estate, then up Rudgate towards Tockwith, we stopped at the memorial to the battle of Marston Moor for a Photo Shoot.

Andy and Lynda and gone on ahead so they missed this.

After this we onto the A59 and turned of into Little Ouseburn, where the sun had started to shine again. We went over Aldwark Bridge were we stopped to pay the toll, I could not believe the cost 40p. I think the bloke could not believe his look when he saw all the cars! From there we carried onto the Sidings hotel.  Disaster struck the ZR, it refused to start and we had to call out the AA. It was a bad connection to the starter motor. Anyway we would like to thank the Leeds club for a very enjoyable run and hopefully we will meet up again.
